Eddie Carr Online Notetaking

Over the last year and a half my school has been going under “Modernization“. As a result of the classroom upgrades, I was able to move into a new and very large computer lab classroom in February. Very large compared to the last computer lab which was housed in a portable classroom. In addition to teaching Web Design, HTML, and MS Office I also teach Algebra in this computer lab classroom. During the 2008-09 school year I had the students use the online version of their textbook to begin their… Continue

Jamie Myrick Is the honeymoon over in your classroom?

All around the country teachers and students are beginning to realize that the honeymoon is over. The teachers have put away the white kid gloves, and are grabbing for referrals to the office. Students have conveniently lost the white uniform shirts and now take every chance to break the school dress code… Continue

John Curry Hard work pays off in Healdsburg

Hi all, I wanted to share good news. Due to the efforts of students and staff, the Healdsburg High API and AYP growth goals were all met for the 2009 STAR season. The HHS API increased school-wide by 11 points, while subgroups gained 49, 43, 23 and 14 points each. The students also met 17 of 17 criteria for AYP and have met them 3 of the past 4 years. The success can be attributed to hard working students, focused curriculum, dedicated teachers and appropriate placement in "support/intervention"… Continue

George F. Sabato myWorld Geography Microsite now up and running!

The last year I have been working on the new geography textbook from Pearson Education, myWorldgeography. The book is expected to be released in January. I have just been given permission to share the myWorld microsite with my friends and colleagues. You will discover the myStory videos of teenagers from around the world are unique to Pearson—filmed specifically for this program. The textbook, as my wife says, reads like an historical novel. Shirley Roath The Algebra Challenge, CLMS/CLHS 7/27/09

For life in the 21st century, mathematics proficiency is as fundamental as literacy, and the keystone of mathematical proficiency is Algebra 1. Traditionally, algebra has distinguished the college-bound from other students. Today it denies many students a high school diploma and contributes to dropout rates. The challenge for K-12 schools is to prepare students for success in Algebra 1 and beyond by teaching algebraic thinking at all grade levels. This workshop focuses on ways to meet and beat t… Continue
